The image above shows Leonard Cohen who is now looming over Montrealers in a large mural that was recently completed above the city’s Boulevard St. Laurent.
The artist Kevin Ledo, who is a family friend, says that his nine-storey image “represents the darkness and the energy surrounding Leonard Cohen’s later work”. You can see the mural on the Main in the image that appears below.
“I’ve been wanting to paint Leonard Cohen for a few years, and I’ve been wanting to paint this wall for a few years — I live around the corner — so the two together, I couldn’t say no,” he said.
Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
One very famous work by Leonard Cohen is Hallelujah. You can hear this magnificent work in the following video by the 2017 Midwinter Youth Men’s Chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The Big Chorus hosted by First Capital Chorus in Langley BC
Hallelujah was one of the main featured works during this Big Chorus event. This brought together about 100 Barbershop Quartet singers from the following six local choirs. You can learn more about each of them by clicking on the link for each name.
- Chilliwack Harmony Chorus
- First Capital Chorus, Langley BC
- Gentlemen of Fortune, Coquitlam BC
- The Squares, Southwest BC
- Mount Baker Toppers, Bellingham WA
- Vancouver Thunderbird Chorus
The whole evening was a huge success as you might imagine with such a harmonious gathering. They are all members of the Barbershop Harmony Society. It was a choreographic reminder of that truism, Sing and Grow Younger. If you would like to connect with others who sing, then this is the place to go.
Barbershop Harmony Society
The Barbershop Harmony Society was founded in 1938. However it is far from a group that is looking back with nostalgia for its past achievements. Instead it is now bursting forth with a new mission which you will see described in the following video.
