Have you ever heard of the Pareto Principle? It’s the magic 80-20 rule where twenty percent of the work you do gives you eighty percent of the results. When you take a step back and look at it you might think it’s crazy. How on earth could you get almost the same results by doing only a small percentage of the work? You realize how possible it is when you accept that most of the work you do is not worthwhile and you’re basically wasting your time. You don’t think it’s true, but really think about it for a minute.
When you are working how long do you actually spend on work that brings money through the door? I bet it’s not as long as you think it is. Imagine how much money you could make if you found a way to save all that time you waste so that you have much more time to dedicate to money making activities. I bet you would be making more money in no time and your business would grow at a speed you could be proud of. Take a look these and they should help you save all that time you waste.
Outsource your mail
Something that does take up a lot of time is our physical mail. It’s a lot different to an email, which you can just delete. When someone sends you something physical you need to open it. If you sign-up to a special mail service they will give you an address to use and all your work mail will go directly to them. Let them be the ones to take care of it for you and you can just sit down and read them in your inbox once they are emailed over.
Get yourself a new monitor
When you work on anything using a single monitor you waste a huge amount of time flicking between windows. Maybe one of them is open on a text editor and the rest on a few websites where you’re getting information. If you had two monitors you could be flicking between the websites and your text editor would always be open. Have you ever tried to remember something then forget some of it before having to change windows again? You don’t have to with two monitors.
Feel like a million bucks
Most of the time we’re not working is spent trying to get comfortable on our chair. When you have a special chair that makes you feel amazing you don’t spend any time wishing you were somewhere else. Just remember that the next time you catch yourself thinking about how sore you are. You should definitely make sure your next purchase is chair that makes you smile when you sit on it.
What will you do?
People underestimate the power of a to-do-list. They can take you to the next level, but you have to be careful. Don’t have any menial jobs on there. You want to make sure you’re hitting the biggest jobs before anything else. If you’re wondering what they are it’s the ones that are bringing in all the money. Nothing else matters and you want to hit the big jobs while you’re still fresh. Write this list on a piece of paper and stick it to your monitor every day.
Tell someone how long
When you speak to anyone on the phone it can take ages. It will sometimes wipe hours off your day and for what? I know sometimes it’s nice to be friendly and small talk goes a long way, but you need to be smart and decide when it’s right to blab away for hours. When you answer the phone to someone you don’t need to chat with tell them how long you have before any words are exchanged. That means they won’t feel upset when you say it’s time to hang-up.
