Why do they support nofollow? By doing this they block discussions. Some people participate in discussions and leave comments not only to share their opinion but also receive quality backlinks.

Well I like Twitter a lot, but the format is not very good for in depth discussions or dialog.

Most of the professionals I follow use Twitter as a marketing tool, referring to Blog posts.

I think its sad Google keep pursuing the nofollow strategy towards bloggers. The problem in blogging is link-spamming, not links to relevant blogs and or content.

Why do we have link spamming?

Well in my opinion it’s due to the original Pagerank model. Google have encouraged SEO’s to link spam to improve rankings – and they still to some degree do.

Why do bloggers have to pay the price for this problem?

When I make a proper post in a blog I would like some “credit” and I would like to pay credit to the people who are contributing to my blog.

Akismet routinely takes care of my spam problems for me with it catching all but one spam comment in the nearly 9 month life of my bog so far. Google is really shooting itself in the foot with this one, especially since the actual pagerank equation is self-adjusting and logarithmic. What they should be doing is policing pages caught delivering spam and encouraging bloggers to report spammers, rather than crippling the internet's social structure.

Shouldn't that be DoFollow President!?

Well comment spammers don't really care to much whether a blog is nofollow or dofollow, so you may not necessarily notice much difference in jumping from one to the other.

The most effective anti-spam tool in my arsenal is Aksimet - and I always preview comments before they are published.

Back in September I wrote a blog post (http://www.seoaly.com/why-nofollow-my-comments/) announcing that I had elected to buck Google's preference of having NOFOLLOW comments on my blog.

Despite the well-intended advice of a number of other bloggers and their claims that SPAM would run rampant and rankings of my blog posts would suffer, I decided that providing some incentive for those taking time to comment on my posts outweighed the potential negative impact.

It has now been more than 6 months and I've seen no evidence that leads me to believe that my blog's reputation and posts' rankings have suffered as a result of removing NOFOLLOW from my blog comments.

Granted, I haven't just removed the NOFOLLOW command by default, but by using the highly customizable "No Follow Free" WordPress plugin.

96% of google's profit comes from adwords (see eric schmidt's interview with charlie rose last week). They dont give a crap about blogger. And most people dont know or dont care about nofollow.

If you moderate your comments then nofollow doesnt make any sense. I don't use them but I moderate my comments and kick out any spam, it doesn't take that much work...
