Bell Canada is killing Frank and Gordon. Full-page ads in today’s dailies have Frank and Gordon saying their final goodbye.

Well, the time has come for us to say goodbye. We’ve had a great time introducing you to neat products that make your personal and business life better. Nature is calling, and we have been invited back to the forest to become teachers for a whole new generation of spokescritters.

Frank and Gordon, Bell Canada, Gone

They really have gone this time. There is not a trace of them on the Bell Canada website. To check that just do a google search for frank gordon site:bell.ca

The only mention, which is presumably temporary, is the following.

It really is an indication of how much Bell Canada does not understand the online world. Use the latest Firefox browser version 3 and you are encouraged to downgrade to version 2.

More importantly, they do not realize that an online asset can be preserved for all time at minimal cost. Frank and Gordon created enormous goodwill for Bell Canada and it is a shame that they will sink without a trace. Marketing magazine possibly has the explanation:

Though there is no word yet, we’re also wondering if the end of the beavers also signals the switch of creative agencies for Bell, with Cossette believed to have lost most or even all of the account to Leo Burnett and Zulu Alpha Kilo.

  1. We are so sad to see the end of Frank and Gordon, always enjoyed their sweet commercials and general foolishness. For some reason, they reminded us our of daughter’s mini weiner dogs, Muppet the older “smarter” one was Frank, and Mocha, the goofy little one was Gordon. I can’t imagine why you would choose to send them off to the forest.

  2. The two Beavers gave Bell at least a bit of heart, life and fun.
    Looks like Bell will be just another dull heartless company.

  4. Loved these guys, lots of laughs,
    especially when in the spa scene and
    entertaining the ladies. Won’t be the same.

  5. I enjoyed Frank and Gordon, liked the radio and TV spots. Fun, catchy.
    The new Bell commercials are a corporate bore.

  6. We like the Bell Olympic commercial, but think of how cute it would be with Frank and Gordon in it…Gordon would be sweet in rhythmic gymnastics, Frank in the triathlon, and the two of them would be perfect in synchronized swimming. Ahhh…the possibilities!!

  7. Frank and Gordon were polarizing mascots that had as many detractors as fans. I personally found them insipid and did little but wane my loyalty to the Bell brand. While some may have found them cute and funny, did they really augment sales for Bell? I know this may be subjective, but do mascots and other assorted creatures translate to sales?
