Number 10 Downing Street, the home of the British Prime Minister, has an online website that allows citizens to create petitions for the Prime Minister’s attention. The e-petitions system launched in November 2006 and is currently in a public “beta test”.
A prior post described the gross inequity whereby UK pensioners resident in Canada have their pensions frozen. This is only true for certain Commonwealth countries. Pensions to those resident in the US or Europe are indexed with inflation.
Peter Morris, Vice President of the British Australian Pensioner Association (BAPA), has now created an e-petition that reads as follows:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to remove the discrimination against British State pensioners who retire in certain overseas countries.
It has already received over 1,000 signatures and the number is rising dramatically. The deadline to sign up is 15 November 2007 but clearly the earlier the better.
